Advisor 1: "Do you have any further orders, o son of Jupiter?" Advisor 2: "cough cough"

Diocletian: "Yes. I will appoint Maximian as Augustus*" * senior emperor

Diocletian: "He will rule the western part of the Roman empire while I remain in the east." Advisor: "Very good, sir, but who is this Maximian?"

Diocletian: "He is a fellow soldier who I go drinking with." Advisors: "SIR!"

Despite how unreliable this "Maximian" sounded, he turned out to be very loyal to Diocletian. Diocletian: "You will be the son of Hercules, Maximian." Maximian: "Who just happens to be lower than Jupiter?" Diocletian: "Yes." Maximian: "Okay."

Diocletian: "You will also have your own army, administration and court."

Maximian: "Cool." Diocletian: "But I will be able to veto any decision you make." Maximian: "Okay."

“He’s another soldier I go drinking with” made me laugh harder than anything I’ve read in a while.
