Must have been a pretty dang hard pill for Licinius to swallow. Even worse for Valens!
Valens fought hard, matched evenly with Constantine's might, and the victor was still undecided by nightfall. Licinius' army fled under cover of darkness.
Legionary: Run! Leave the tents!
Constantine went to intercept them at the small town of Byzantium. Turns out that wasn't what they were.
Now Constantine was in a bad position with Licinius' army blocking his path of communication.
Constantine: Fine! I guess I'll let you offer me a treaty.
Licinius: Praise Jesus.
This is what they decided: Constantine holds more power than Licinius, as well as most of the European soil.
Licinius: It's okay... I am okay with it...
To make matters... Better? They appointed Constantine's two sons and Licinius's only son as Caesers.
Licinius: Oh yeah, this is going to work out just fine.
Finally, Licinius had Valens executed. Poor Valens. Not much is known of him, except that with his death began a period of internal peace that lasted seven years.
